The Minister of Youth and Sports Rashid Pelpuo has pledged the Government’s support for Kwame Nkrumah Acheampong, who will represent the nation at the impending Vancouver Winter Olympics Skiing.
The Minster said to the UK based Skier’s maiden qualification to the Winter Olympics was of much interest to the Ministry, especially for being the first of its kind in Africa. “ This is something which is of interest to the Ministry and we will do all we can to help him to participate in the Winter Olympics in Canada”. Rashid Pelpuo gave the assurance when Acheampong, paid a courtesy call on him at the office last Tuesday. He said that the whole idea was to create awareness and rally national support to the athlete to make the nation proud at the Olympics. According to the Minister, he recently hosted the Canadian Ambassador to Ghana, who informed him of his country’s eagerness to host the Ghanaian athlete in Vancouver. Kwame Nkrumah Acheampong who took part in his second World Championships in France earlier this year, after making his debut in Sweden two years ago, will participate in the slalom and giant slalom events in the Winter Olympics. He promised to make the nation proud in his maiden Olympic appearance as he flew back to Italy next week to continue with his preparations.
