Paddy Power announced their sponsorship of Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampong the first Ghanaian to qualify for the Winter Olympics as they have a habit of backing the underdog. Paddy Power has a history of supporting the underdog, like the Tongan Rugby Team in the 2007 World Cup, and after hearing his story have stepped in to give him the financial support to enable him to compete at the pinnacle of ski racing.
The new sponsorship will now enable Kwame to have access to ski technicians, physios and training venues in Vancouver to help him achieve his Olympic dream. It will also help meet the transport and logistics costs for the team to get to the Olympics in the first place. The deal was brokered via sport agency Fuse and the campaign will be activated using Paddy Power’s unique fun and friendly twist.
Paddy Power said of the Sponsorship deal “We love the underdog at Paddy Power and they come no bigger than an athlete competing in Olympic skiing from a country that never sees snow! We are right behind Kwame and we have not only given him financial support we also want to create a huge following through the media and social networking.”
Kwame, The Snow Leopard said “Paddy Power have been amazing as it has cost me a fortune to train and qualify for the Olympics and Paddy Power’s support means that I now have a fighting chance to compete well and actually get to Vancouver in the first place.”
