Khunu is a newly established premium adventure wear company driven by a social purpose. The company develops high quality, stylish products from responsibly sourced natural fibres. The initial clothing range – premium knitwear tops for men – was created from Khunu’s pioneering use of Himalayan yak wool sourced from nomadic communities living on the Tibetan Plateau. The first products will be commercially available in February 2010 through the Khunu website and from select retailers in North America.
Khunu will outfit Kwame and the Ghana Ski Team for the Vancouver Olympics. In addition Kwame will act as a product tester and brand ambassador for Khunu for the upcoming year.
Commenting on the Agreement, Julian Wilson, Co-founder of Khunu Limited said: “Kwame ‘s journey to the Olympics has been an incredible one that highlights how hard work and raw determination can propel someone to achieve the seemingly impossible. His spirit, authenticity and achievements are reflective of the ideals of the Khunu brand – and his efforts as an outsider in an established field are an inspiration to us. We look forward to working with him as we look to expand our range of natural fibre based adventure products.”
Adding further, Kwame commented: “When Khunu first approached me I liked their philosophy of building a business that also set out to have a positive social impact. I thought their idea of introducing yak wool to the outdoor market was a particularly compelling one given the recent appeal of merino wool.
Over the coming year I look forward to working more closely with them to test and develop products that perform well in the mountains and look as good après ski. Having seen and felt the Yak Wool products, they look stunning and are soft to the touch. I cant wait to get the new limited edition tops, for me this deal is brilliant, it helps fund my Olympic Campaign and gives me something I really want to wear”
